Solar energy projects convert sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic panels to deliver power to the electric grid where it’s needed. They provide clean, renewable energy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, lowers long-term energy costs, supports grid reliability, and makes productive use of underutilized land while creating local jobs and economic benefits.
Battery energy storage systems store electricity from solar facilities or from the grid and discharge it when needed, typically over a four-hour period. They help balance supply and demand, support renewable energy integration, reduce grid congestion, and enhance reliability. These systems also provide backup power and can lower energy costs by storing electricity during low-demand, low-cost periods.
During the early stages of development most work is done offsite: land title research, applications and studies with the electric utility, and permitting discussions with local, state, and potentially federal authorities. Prospect14 has particular exprtise in managing the electrical interconnection process. Later in the development process we undertake onsite surveys and environmental and other studies, complt detailed project dsigns, and work with local, state, and if needed Federal authorities to secure the necessary permits for the project.
Before the project goes into construction, we arrange financing for both the construction and the project operations. This financing comes from a combination of lenders and tax credit investors.
Once all legal entitlements are secured allowing the project to be built and to be connected to the electric grid, and once project financing has been secured, construction can begin. The construction process depends on project size and specific site characteristics, but for projects of the size we develop is typically less than a year, often substantially less.
Solar and battery energy storage projects then operate for up to 40 years, typically monitored remotely with relatively infrequent scheduled or call-out maintenance visits.
